Documentary newborn session | Philadelphia Newborn Photographer

Sometimes, people prefer unposed newborn photography and would prefer a Documentary newborn session instead. This session is done in a more journalistic fashion, while still being guided/posed by the photographer - this is sometimes referred to as a lifestyle session as well. These sessions are lovely in that home is such a part of who you are and what your story is. The home you brought your baby to when they were born.These types of sessions are done VERY differently than my posed, in-studio sessions - I don't do ANY newborn posing in them at all! (I used to travel to people's homes with ALL of my props and my studio lighting and phew. I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned this here but I hate elevators. One session, in July, on the fifth floor of a high rise apartment building, dragging my things in many trips got me to finally sign a lease on a studio three years ago and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. No more traveling posed sessions for this lady. But I also LOVE a documentary newborn session too!)I had photographed this family already - for some beautiful outdoor shots and then some incredibly lovely studio shots as well. So, it was a treat for me to see them again, this time as parents. I'm sure I've told you how much I love seeing the palpable switch from "pregnant people" to "parents". This was no exception. Mom and Dad and (dog) brother were all settled right in and loving on Baby J. And I got to spectate, say things like, "Put your arm around her" or "Lean in and touch heads" and then photograph the magic. I'm sharing favorites from that magic below.
