I didn't set out to be a Philly baby photographer. I wasn't even going to photograph babies. I just intended to practice on them, because my birth doula/prenatal yoga instructor had a steady stream of models for me (read: free shoots for practice). I would write up my set list (a practice I still do today to keep me focused, prepared and flowing from one pose to another in the most natural way for the baby), and my goals for the session. Then I'd come home after the session and critique everything on the adjacent page, and talk about the goals and if I felt I'd met them and how.You know what I learned? That newborn photography is hard. And there was a LOT to learn. That was more than 8 years ago. And, there are still challenges I do for myself, tricks for making things easier that I learn, and workshops I attend. A challenge is fun. Goals to be met is the best way for me to work. I am so competitive, especially with myself. I am so happy with the images that I produce now, but there is more to learn, always. I love the first little pose below - this is something new I've been working on this year. There are so many pieces to get right and it makes it a fun challenge, especially the part where you make the baby love it and make them comfortable while getting the most gorgeous look possible.I'm loving this pose.  Perfecting the bucket has been an additional goal for me. CHECK. :) And coming up with new spins on this tucked in pose, as well as perfecting it so that it's great out of the camera. Again, CHECK. I have really fallen in love with the tucked in pose shown below this year, too.  I won't even get into the post processing challenges.
