Sunny Day | Media Cake Smash Photographer

I really couldn’t believe my luck, here. A third new theme idea and this one was for the brother of one of my favorite cake smashes to date. Not only was this boy’s brother the definition of the Happiest Baby on the Block - but he ate every crumb of his cake and then splashed out every drop of water from my tub. It was also adorable and super creative - and his parents brought a surf board with them from home! What’s terrible is that I just looked and I don’t think I ever blogged it because I’m pretty terrible at keeping up with blog posts. I can link you to the Instagram post here, though.

I absolutely adore this family. I’ve done both of their guys’ newborn sessions and both of their first birthdays now, too. I feel super lucky to have clients whose families I’ve grown alongside. This is one of them.

This color scheme is honestly everything. I love it so much and I think it’s really perfect for this guy’s warm, sweet personality. A warm edit to top things off and this feels like a perfect portrait to me!

Color harmony on point. Even his hair matches the set!

Happy babies still have intensity y’all! He was definitely focused on his cake.

This is the definition of a mega watt smile. Look at his joy!

And now that I’ve shared how cute this session turned out and how happy I was with the set and the images, I feel like I should be honest and tell you that this was my second attempt. You see, when mom sent me her inspo pics, the only thing I could think was that the sun was hand painted. I know some artists. I was considering hiring someone but I started a few days early and was like, “Let’s see what I come up with myself” as I make 100% of my cake smash sets myself (okay, with the exception of some of the cutting out parts are done by my husband who is a much more detail-oriented human being than I am). Oh, man, guys. The painting I did. I carefully selected a gorgeous yellow and carefully selected a cool silicone brush (which was SO much fun to paint with, btw!). I sketched out my sun (oh, that could be a lie… I forget if I did this or if I thought I could freehand it). Either way, I wasn’t happy with what I made. I asked my husband to come look. He said, “It’s cute. It’s supposed to look like a kid did it, right?” Um NO. WRONG. Hahah. So I ran to a photography group and asked and they were all like, “Oh, no, baby. No. It’s a stencil/sticker, baby.” This is why we plan ahead. Because I had enough time to get one on Amazon. This is a stencil, people, and not my original artwork.

And, I still LOOOOOOOVE this set. And this family.
